Streamlining your A4J workflow with issue archiving

Hello, Atlassian Community!

We’re thrilled to announce a new feature in Automation for Jira (A4J) 9.1.1 — also part of the Jira 9.14 release — that will revolutionize the way you manage your issues.

Introducing issue archiving

Issue archiving adds a new action and two new triggers aimed at enhancing your productivity by providing you with the ability to archive issues automatically and in bulk.

New action: Archive Issue

The Archive Issue action is the heart of this feature; it enables you to automatically archive issues in bulk, saving you time and manual labor. But how does it know which issues to archive? That’s where the Jira Query Language (JQL) comes into play.

By leveraging JQL, the Archive Issue action can find issues that meet specific criteria and archive them automatically. This not only reduces clutter and streamlines your workflow but also allows you to focus on the issues that really matter.

New triggers: Issue Archived and Issue Restored

We’re also introducing two new triggers — Issue Archived and Issue Restored, which add yet another layer of efficiency and customization to your Jira experience.

The Issue Archived trigger is particularly useful for maintaining transparency and keeping your team up-to-date. For instance, you can set up an automation rule that sends a notification to select team members whenever an issue is archived.

Similarly, the Issue Restored trigger can be handy for reassigning tasks, updating project status, or simply notifying your team that an issue needs to be looked at again.

Thanks to these new triggers, you can swiftly react to changes and ensure that everyone on your team is on the same page.

Harnessing the Power for Automation

The introduction of issue archiving to A4J underscores our commitment to making your experience with Jira as seamless and as efficient as possible. By automating the archiving and restoration processes, we want to help you save time, reduce clutter, and focus on what truly matters – delivering exceptional work.

We can’t wait to see the innovative ways you’re going to use issue archiving in A4J! As always, we’re here for any questions or feedback.
