Transition ticket to a new ticket type upon certain status?

Is there a way to transition one ticket, upon entering a certain status (for example; In Progress), to a different ticket type?


We have multiple ticket types, and when an engineer gets assigned to a ticket, we transition it to "To Do (ENG)" and want kicking it to that status to change the ticket type to an engineering ticket type, with a different workflow?

Changing the issue type is not a field change. The issue type is a structural thing, that the whole configuration hangs off.  You can't edit it directly (unless the configuration for both source and target types are identical for fields and workflow), and you can't change it as a transition.  You have to use "move"

You would be better served by evaluating why you are changing the type - you should probably be reducing the number of types and making your workflow work for one type, or creating linked issues instead of changing.
