Add-On "Email This Issue" is overloading our database

We have received a peak of 40k mails in our JIRA and the database were overloaded. We have restarted JIRA but the CPU utilization of the database hasn't go any lower. 

Anyone has have this issue? Do you know how can we troubleshoot it?
