Rapidly reuse SLA calendars in Jira Service Management

This feature is progressively rolling out starting Friday 3rd June 2022. If you are a Premium customer using Release Tracks then it will be available in your next release window.

We are rolling out a new capability for the Service Level Agreement feature in Jira Service Management. When creating a new SLA calendar you will now have the option to import an existing SLA calendar from another project.

This will make it easier to drive consistency across your projects, and simplify the process of managing calendar changes (e.g. public holidays).

How it works

On the Service level agreements page, in the pop-up presented after you select the calendar icon, you will see a new tab titled Other calendars. This will automatically present the calendars from other projects within your Jira Service Management site. Each calendar presents its name, but also which project from which it comes. From here you are able to Copy to this service project to make a copy of that calendar in this project. Then simply select Save and you will be able to use that calendar for the SLAs in this project.

Managing multiple projects

If you are trying to use a consistent calendar across multiple projects this feature provides you with some improved options.

  1. Editing calendars across projects - For calendars in the Other calendars section, a Jira Administrator will be able to edit each calendar from the one interface.

  2. Marking a calendar as a template - You can make it easy for projects to use the right calendar by prefixing one with “(Template)”. You can ensure that calendar is always up to date, and encourage projects to take another copy of it whenever changes are made.

Seeking feedback

This feature is an early exploration into using SLAs at scale. We are interested to learn more about how you manage SLAs across your organisation, and the true value of reusability/high-level visibility.

It doesn't work for holydays. They doesn't get copied.

Would this be available for Data Centre as well?

Although if the Public Holidays don't copy over then it isn't really very useful.

That would be the main reason for its use in our team.

We manage 65 Service Management projects and majority of them use the same Working/Business day calendar. Would be good to have ability to set up a single calendar as a global and then apply it to projects where required, then when new year rolls around update the global one with new public holidays and make it flow through automatically into the project's it is applied within.
