Assigning project to someone outside of company

Dave_Mohr March 3, 2020

Is it possible to assign a task to someone outside of your company.

Scenario: We are a Purchasing Dept, at times we need a Supplier to answer or address an issue.  Are we able to assign them these tasks?

Hello Dave,

Welcome to the Atlassian community!

In order to be assigned to issues, a person must be added as a user to Jira Software and counted in Jira with a license.

In fact, there are some scenarios where multiple external users must access the internal UI of Jira to address questions. In that case, you have two possible approaches:

1 - If it is a limited number of external Users, you can create a single Jira user for each supplier, properly adding them to separate projects and restricting their permission to only see their issues. Each user will be counted as a license in your billing.

2 - You can create a single user to allow the access of multiple external suppliers/teams in case there is a big number of suppliers, where they will share this same user to access Jira. The viability of this approach would depend on what requirements you need. These would be some goals you could achieve:

   - You can create a custom field to identify which is the "real person" current acting in the issues

   - Since they will be able to see each other issues, maybe a good approach would be to create a single user for each team

Let us know if you have any questions.
