Workflow - How to use custom field values to transition to different status

Use Case

Based on Custom field value the approval has to go to specific groups.

For example – Zone-1 user requests should go to Zone 1 approvers.  Zone-2 user requests should go to Zone-2 approvers.

Solution

  • Add a custom field in the request called Zone which will have the values Zone-1, Zone-2 etc.
  • Add custom fields Zone -1-approvers, Zone-2-approvers etc.
  • Question – How to set up the Workflow using the custom fields to check the custom field value and transition to a specific status.

Generally not the right reason to trigger transitions, but it should be possible.

You will need to look at Automation or Scripting apps.  A glance at my usual library of scripts makes me think a listener for Cloud Jira could be built to spot changes in your custom field, work out what transition to execute and do it.  But it would have to be very tightly coupled to the workflow.
