How do you use JIRA for your PM team?

Curious to hear how some of you have configured your JIRA projects.

I would like to better leverage JIRA for the product management team to groom/prioritize their portfolios.

How do you manage your flow from Feature Request --> PM Portfolio Backlog --> Active Development Backlog?

Do you have these set up as different projects? One per feature area?
Do you move issues from one to the other or do you duplicate?
What statuses do you use to communicate progress/decisions?
Any interesting JIRA add-ons that help PMs visualize and organize their backlogs?
