Auto Assignee Scenario

Looking to generate ideas:

-Have a set of Issue types with configured workflows that are then associated with a set of Request Types.

-Company needs the assignee to automatically change when a issue changes statuses. Specifically from when it changes from "In progress" to "Escalated."

-The assignee can't always change to be the same developer. Needs to cycle through a set of specific developers. (As of now all of our developers are in one group, could split them up in different groups if needed be.) 

Is there a way to configure a post function in my Issue Types workflow ?
