Update on the rollout of Jira Align's new navigation experience

Hi all,

I want to follow up on our previous post, which introduced the new navigation experience coming to Jira Align. We know this is not a trivial change, and we’re grateful for the time all of you’ve invested so far: every bug reported, every feature request, every internal document updated for your teams has helped make this launch successful.

In this post, I’ll cover:

  • Remaining rollout phases/timeline

  • Upcoming new navigation fixes and improvements

  • Reminder of available training and help resources

Remaining rollout phases/timeline

In our previous post, we laid out the phased rollout plan, starting with an admin-controlled opt-in phase in July 2023 and ending with removal of old navigation in December 2023. This phased rollout was designed to give you ample time for internal training/documentation and to explore the new experience for issues or missing functionality.

As planned, we will remove the old navigation experience in the 10.127.1, December 1, 2023 release (for continuous tracks), and the 10.127.2 December 8, 2023 release (for bundled tracks).

Upcoming new navigation fixes and improvements

We’re planning several improvements to (a) plug gaps between the old and new navigation experiences, and (b) respond to new requests that arose as you explored the new navigation.

The most significant remaining gap between the old and new navigations is filtering, and we're committed to addressing this prior to removing the old navigation experience. An example of this is roadmaps, where in the old experience you could filter roadmaps with multiple portfolios or multiple teams to see cross-portfolio, cross-program, and cross-team work. The good news on this specific issue is that in the 10.124.3, September 29, 2023 release, these filters were added to the new experience! You can follow our release notes to stay up to date on what we’re fixing, changing, and adding with each release.

We're also cleaning up the sidebar menus to make pages and reports more discoverable. Small, simple changes like making sure the items are listed based on the type and hierarchy level (e.g. themes, epics, capabilities, features, etc., and program increments, sprints, releases, etc.), and making sure that reports are listed in alphabetical order using your terminology.

Finally, one more exciting improvement we're planning is with the horizontal navigation menu. We listened to your feedback and will be introducing a new team hierarchy menu to help users find teams in the context of others. We're still working through the details of this improvement so it won't be introduced before removing the old navigation experience, but we wanted to give everyone an early look at where we're headed next.

Reminder of available training and help resources

We understand updating training material can be a considerable lift, and we know several of you are racing to the December finish line to get it done in time. Several resources are available to help: first, we recently updated our help center so that users have guides for both the old experience and the new experience (including several new video walkthroughs of the navigation menus and homepage). In addition, all of our training materials have been updated and can be provided by your Advisory Services representative.

Again, thank you for the feedback, and let me know if you have any follow-up questions!

-Kyle

When with the training videos be updated to the new UI?  They're worse than useless as it'll be confusing to our new users (which we're directing to the new UI).

@Kyle Foreman - you mention alphabetizing reports in this article, but the JAC ticket for this is still marked as a Future Consideration with no tagged release. Is there any insight to its being developed and released prior to the December release? Thanks!

Loving the new navigation!
Looking forward to the hierarchy options in the menu. Will that also show up for "Custom Rooms"?
Would also love to have the OKR Hub available at the Enterprise layer too please!
