I just read this article called "Designing for Diversity", with particular interest in the "user research session where the organizers brought in a visually impaired person as part of user research study.".
When I was doing my Talent Strategy tour delivery training in 9 cities across Canada, I was struck in the beginning when distinguishing between the features of two platforms using coloured dots on the screen. I mistakenly designed those slides without thinking of those who may be visually impaired or colour blind. I quickly made some modifications after that first session, but it didn't help the individual in the room at my first session who was colour blind. I am much more aware in my designing of courses due to this experience.
I like how Trello uses shapes and different designs within their label features, and you can turn this feature on and off.
