I'd be interested in any feedback on using the JIRA DC app on Azure

Tumbleweeds on this one, I'll answer myself.

 

The app on Azure takes about an hour to build the instance, you can see the scale set in Azure and add more nodes etc.

A free Azure account wont cut it to create a Jira DC instance, a Visual Studio $50 monthly credit subscription will get you going
