What are the limitations of using Atlassian Companion ?

Gabriel Vizireanu May 11, 2022

While editing an Excel file fetched from intranet and not from local computer if you what to make a change into this file and save it, it will be saved on the temporary local folder (I think) and not on the initial intranet location. Therefore, if you are uploading a new version, if will bring the version from intranet, which does not have the change made.

It would be nice if Companion will understand that the source of the Excel file is on intranet and will pass over this information so that Excel will understand also that the file is on intranet and when saving the file from within Excel, this will be saved into the right place (intranet).

Hi  @Gabriel Vizireanu

I'm not sure what you mean...

If I want to edit a file on confluence, i click edit. Then the companion app opens the Excel file. I make my changes and save, then I just need to upload via companion. That's it.

Hi Dominic,

Thanks for your answer. What you said is correct if you are editing a  file from your local machine. This is working for me too.

What about editing a file that is stored in a common project storing place somewhere on company's intranet as the whole team needs to have access to the content of this file? This is the situation which I really do not know how to treat it.

Any help will be more than welcomed.

The companion app has nothing to do with local machine yes or no.

If you use the companion app, the app will open your excel from confluence and you can save and upload it to confluence directly.

If you have somewhere a project storing place, then just use this. But then you do not need the companion app. You just need the companion app, when you want to edit files out of confluence ;)

I think we missunderstand still. Sorry for that

Regards
