Using Confluence to create test-script templates

I've read numerous articles and have scoured the forums and have found nothing that specifically deals with my question.

I have been tasked with moving our test cases/scripts from excel into confluence so not only can our customers view see them, but more importantly, so they can be created rather easily and executed for specific customers.

The goal is to have a template(s) for which every scenario would be accounted for and the project manager can pick and choose the functionality they want to see tested and then generate the test script.

For example, Customer A uses 'user roles' for login while customer B uses username/password. Ultimately, after all of the scenarios are entered into a template or child page, the PM can go through and pick and choose the customer-relevant test cases and create a master test for that customer.

Am I asking too much of Confluence?

Test Scenarios can be created in Confluence by feature. As new user stories contain enhancements to the feature, the page should be updated.

A test scenarios page can be used to track QA testing results simply by updating the 6 columns starting with "Input Data."

IMO, this template has the potential of replacing current state use of Excel for documentation.  (I have proposed this at my company).

Create a 12-column table with the following column names:

  1. ID
  2. Test Scenario
  3. Test Step
  4. User Story Reference
  5. Comments
  6. Author
  7. Input Data as needed
  8. Expected Results
  9. Pass/Fail
  10. Pass Evidence and Comments
  11. Test Date
  12. Tester

Hello Scott,

Thank you for contacting us. Happy to help you with this.

The templates in Confluence aren't scripted but are created with our template editor. See Blueprints and User Created Templates for more information. You wouldn't really be able to use these to cover every scenario that you might need in Confluence.

It sounds like what you want to do is script something. For your example, I can't really relate it to how Confluence deals with templates.

Can you tell me, how exactly are you planning to create these scripts?

Regards,

Shannon
