Restoring Confluence

Matis Aas September 6, 2021

Hi!

Just a quick question about restoring Confluence. We had a security breach in Confluence application server and would like to rollback this server, but we would like to use fresher Database backup. So my question is, can we rollback our application server without rollbacking database? Does this work or are there complications that make it impossible(indexes?) or complicated?
To paint a picture, we'd like to rollback our application server to 1st Sept and use up to date DB.

Thanks in advance,
Matis

If the version of Confluence is not changing, then yes, you can safely do this.

As well as the database, you'll need to consider

  • Attachments (physical files under the attachments directory in the home directory)
  • The index - yes, run a full re-index immediately after restarting

Caches, temporary files, locks and so-on - don't need to worry, the stop before restoration and restart afterwards will handle these automatically.
