Notifications for @mentions does not work in Confluence when collaborating on unpublished page

Odette Vuletich November 20, 2023

The collaboration function outlined here is a great function, and it's nice for multiple people to work on a blog post or page before it's published.

What is missing I believe, is the ability for notifications to be sent to collaborators when making comments in the document.

It's an important step for those collaborating to know when someone else has made a comment suggestion /signed off on a particular portion of the document - so to not have notifications sent telling people they have been mentioned in a comment seems like a missed opportunity.

Am I missing something here?  I'm open to suggestions on how to manage this that works for others - or can we request this as a feature within Confluence?

Hi @Odette Vuletich

It sounds to me like your team works quite a bit on pages before they are ready to be made available to the rest of the company (and you keep them in draft mode, unpublished till then). What about publishing a page right away with view restrictions so that only the people who will be commenting on it can see it? That way the @ mentions will function correctly and those who are tagged will receive notifications when a comment is resolved.

You could also use the status feature to let people know if a page is still under review or in progress, but have the page published.

@Laura Campbell _Seibert Group_  Hi, that would work however aren't the old comments still visible to other users once it's opened up for other users to view? We don't want all internal comments visible to the wider audience.  What I like about commenting in draft is that when you publish, the old comments don't come along.
