JIRA-only version of Workbox?

Hi,

We've started using JIRA for project planning/issue tracking and it's great. Some users have installed filters to block the large amount of notification emails that JIRA was spitting out.

We're currently trimming down the notification scheme so that emails are primarily sent out when the assignee changes. For everything else, we encourage them to check their relevant JIRA filters etc.

I noticed that Confluence has a Workbox functionality to see notifications (such as being mentioned in Comments fields). Is it possible to enable this Workbox inside of JIRA? We don't use Confluence, and it would be very handy for people to login and see their notifications ala Facebook.

There is an open feature request for this functionality on https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-30286
