How to define the path for a template

Alden Sova July 27, 2021

I am trying to sort a list of tools into either category A or B. I have an A tool page and a B tool page and have a template/label for each. My goal is: every time someone creates a new page from the A tool template, it automatically childs itself beneath the A Tools page on the left hand pages toolbar and vice versa for B. Right now, I have to manually move each newly created tool into its appropriate "folder" path (it will ultimately be a long list, so I want it to automatically just sort them for me as they are created based on their label/template used).

If this is not a possible functionality, can someone clarify how to change the location/path of a page while creating it? Rather than manually moving a new tool page after it is created, is there a way to choose the desired path while it is being created from its template? I am not seeing the "location" option that I have seen referenced in other articles.

Hope this was clear, thank you so much!

Hi @Alden Sova

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

What I would do is:

  • create two "landing" pages (A tool and B tool).
  • create 2 versions of the template (even if the only difference between them is the different label)
  • On each landing page add the "Create from template" macro and configure them to use the relevant template for the landing page

This will ensure all pages created from the landing page are children of that page.

From there you can make the landing page more meaningful with;

  • An overview or "how to" section
  • add the "Children display" macro
  • experiment with using the "Page properties" and "Page properties report" macros

Insert the page properties report macro | Confluence Cloud | Atlassian Support
