different steps for system update

Robert Stumpe June 11, 2018

Hello,

when updating from 5.8.18 to 6.6.4 i thought it was ok to get a new server, install confluence 6.6.4 and import the xml-backup from 5.8.18.

I thought confluence would update the data during the import.

The system works, no errors with the import - but maybe it is better to install 5.8.18 on the new server, import the xml-backup and after that update confluence to 6.6.4?

I am asking because there are sometimes performance-issues with the new system.

happy to hear your opinions about this case

Hello,

Those backup really should be restored on an instance having the same version than the one it was backed up from. So you should install the Confluence server on 5.8.18, restore your xml-backup and then upgrading up to 6.6.4.

Make sure to validate if you can jump to 5.8.18 to 6.6.4 directly as sometimes you can't jump directly from an old version to the most recent.
