Working with categories in News Board

News Board Lite (previously known as News for Confluence Cloud) offers three fixed category keywords - News, People, and Important.

The new premium version, News Board, lets you define your category keywords.

If you are a Confluence administrator or have at least 'editor' rights in News Board, you can configure your categories from the news page. Click the Configure button and select the Categories option:

You can edit the four default categories or add more. However, while you can edit existing categories, categories can't be deleted, only marked inactive.

The colours assigned to the lozenge can be customised from the Look and Feel configuration. The colour displayed is controlled by the content, not the category.

The default colours are:

• Green if the content includes a 'Profile Picture' macro.
• Yellow if it contains a 'Warning Panel' macro.
• Blue for everything else.

Separating colours from keywords allows you to have different category keywords for content related to the same topic colour, like 'Recent Joiners' and 'Birthdays' for people.

Future versions of News Board may support pairing category keywords with specific colours. Let me know in the comments if this feature interests you.
