I've made a sort of "How to" video which walks you through the process of getting Confluence installed on Ubuntu 18.04 and using MySQL as the database. There were quite a few configuration and settings considerations which need to be completed in sequence. So, at any rate, it doesn't claim to be perfect, but I've repeated the process below a number of times and my Confluence installations appear to be working fine on Ubuntu and while using MySQL as the database for quite a while. One point I would mention however, in the long-run I think you should opt for eight (8) megabytes of RAM; although you can get away with less. Here it is:
