Orientation view for database entry links on pages, Horizontal/Vertical

Hi,

We've come across the need to change the orientation of how a database entry is presented when added to a page. Current is the smart link with the columns in the DB stacked vertically. we'd like to be able to change the orientation with the columns displayed horizontally like in the database.

Is this something that might be possible in the coming releases?

Thanks!

Hi Chris, thanks so much for the feedback. This is not something we have planned in the coming releases, but could you tell me more about when this need has come up and why changing the orientation would be helpful?

Hi @Sami Nudelman ,

Except the reasons I've mentioned before below another advantage is the readability between columns when multiple rows are consolidated into the relevant entry row like the example below. In this case the arrows represent that the information in each column have a relation on a "row-basis" which is easily readable horizontally but more difficult if presented vertically with "Embed Database" macro.

Our workaround doesn't work anymore We have 22 views for a table and now the options to create och save views doesn't even show. Is this a BUG?

Hey @Chris , this is an interesting use case - we're adding it to our backlog to explore.

I'm curious to understand the advantage of having columns be horizontal while your entries that you add are vertical. Would you run into the issue of having to horizontally scroll a lot to see all your entries because the width is smaller than the height?

Hi @Divya Sriram

You are correct in your analyze that it might be a similar issue but horizontally. However, to make our case we have entries with a fair bit of columns and for those pages the entry takes upp the whole page, which is fine but for this particular information it is more important for our users to get to the additional content written on the page and scrolling horizontally won't be an issue. See workaround below as a POC, however, that was for 20 pages and not sustainable if that grows which it will overtime so haveing the option to skip views and just choose orientation for an entry link it is more in line with possible automations and templates in the future.

Workaround: In the meantime to test this out, I created a view for each page which shows the information lika a db table horizontally and just that entry as a filter is applied.

Does this help to clarify?

Thanks
