đź“° AI.News Roundup: Week Ending June 7th

On this fine Monday morning, here's all the news you can use in this week's edition of keeping up with the Joneses Claudes:

  • Built on Work Graph: According to their press release, "the Work Graph’s ability to link work and workflows to higher level company objectives sets it apart. This means AI teammates are able to collaborate with people and take action with the relevant context and rules of engagement..." This messaging showed up in all the  press coverage.
  • AI and humans messaging: In TechCrunch, Paige Costello, head of AI at Asana, said the company chose the name deliberately to create a mental shift in terms of how people think of interacting with AI at work. “We believe that the future of work is humans not just working with humans, but humans also working with AI,”
  • Legal stuff: California is considering legislation that would require companies making large AI models to prevent their models from causing harm, ensure AI systems can be shut down, and disclose AI-generated content. However, many have raised concerns about the extra burdens this could put on companies and the risk of stifling creativity or leading to censorship. The bill has already passed the Senate.
  • Unbabel has developed a new AI model called TowerLLM – they say it outperforms OpenAI's GPT-4 in the translation of seven languages. This is a big deal given OpenAI has been dominating this use case but keep in mind, their results have not been independently verified…
  • Apple and OpenAI have teamed up to integrate ChatGPT into the iPhone’s operating system, with an expected announcement at Apple's developer conference next week. Apple is also developing various AI features for its devices and enhancing Siri with AI capabilities.
