We introduced external user security in June 2023. Admins can apply security controls to users who work with their company and are not managed in their Atlassian organization.
To give admins more flexibility in how they secure external users we have added more capabilities for the customization of session durations. Previously session durations were set to seven days.
As a part of the new capabilities you can now:
Set session durations between 15m - 30 days
Reset all sessions for external users
Learn how to change session duration
Learn how to reset all sessions
We are rolling out session-setting improvements in October and November of 2023. You can expect to see the new session settings in Atlassian Administration (admin.atlassian.com) under Security > external users tab.
The next update to external user security includes enforcing single sign-on for external users.
You can track this and future updates on Atlassian’s Cloud roadmap.
If you previously used external user security, thank you for your feedback. We encourage you to submit feedback via the in-product prompt or to any of your Atlassian support contacts. And if you’re new to external user security, we hope you find it valuable to securely collaborate with your external teammates.
