Can ScriptRunner be used to create a JIRA Service Desk Customer?


Is it possible to use a ScriptRunner postfunction to create a new JSD customer based upon the email address contained in a custom field? 
I know that this can be done with JIRA Automation: (see here ).

But we have ScriptRunner and don't want to purchase another plugin for this specific need. 
Thanks for your advice.
