Hi guys!

We develop the Table Filter, Charts & Spreadsheets for Confluence app and constantly answer questions regarding our add-on here. We have 30-35 questions per month related to our macros, especially the Table Transformer and its SQL queries.

But we only answer questions and have never started any discussions ourselves. And recently we've been prompted to fulfil a feedback form regarding the Community itself. Of course, we've complied willingly and then remembered about our in-app feedback form.

We have a simple form with several open questions regarding the app: use cases, benefits, feature requests. Some of our users decide to bypass the form, others choose to answer the questions.

We read all the answers thoroughly and try to implement all the requests (for example, the last one was about inline comments inside our macros).

So, the purpose of this discussion is to ask other 3rd party vendors how they prefer to collect feedback about their apps: in-app forms, some forms inside the macros, e-mails, live calls, etc. What types of questions do you use? Are there any things that can ruin the collection of the feedback?

And the same questions can be listed for common Confluence users: please help us to improve and point us in the right direction. What should we do to reach out to everybody and make every opinion registered?

Please leave your comments here or visit our support portal that is confidential (in case if that matters).

Thank you!

P.S. Let us also tag the Community users whom we've recently helped - maybe they will share their experience as well. @Maria Del Rosario Gonzalez @Dhiraj Kr_ Gupta @Charles Middlebrooks @William Haase @Green_ Desmond @Vijay

Also as our feedback form is an anonymous one, we can't reply to the users directly. Some of our Cloud users migrated from Server/Data Center and were confused by the new Cloud editor. So, please let us explain several narrow places here (maybe these users or somebody with similar questions will find this discussion and get some hints).

So, there were questions that Confluence Cloud doesn't allow macro nesting. It is really true, the new Cloud editor is based on iFrames and you can't wrap macros with bodies one into another. We mean that if you need to filter your table, you wrap it in the Table Filter macro and voila! But if you need to create a pivot table based on the filtered table and create a chart on top of it, you won't be able to do it directly on the page (like you did it in Server/Data Center).

But there is a workaround: place your table inside the Table Toolbox macro and create the required macro sequence inside its shell (just drag-n-drop macros on the left panel and arrange them as you wish).

We mean that if you visit our documentation, find some uses cases where we used macro nesting and posted the screenshots from Data Center, don't hesitate - you can do the same on Cloud as well! Just not directly on the page but via the Table Toolbox shell. All the settings for other macros are the same for Cloud and Data Center.

I have been part of the team to provide survey experience and feedback to product teams, and recently looked to Usersnap to fill this gap as an affiliate.

Their OOTB Jira integration seems to work with JPD as well

The second most widely asked question was about Excel-like features in our app. We mean if we can add cell formulas and allow table editing without entering the Edit mode like you do it in Google Sheets.

Here our users may be confused because we provide 10+ different macros but the Table Spreadsheet macro is also a part of our "family".

It supports multi-user editing from the View and Edit mode, provides Excel-like cell formulas, conditional formatting, pivot tables, and charts. The data is securely stored as an attachment to the page.

Also, as our macros support the Jira Issues macro, our users asked us if we can turn Jira tables into live spreadsheets. The answer is yes, please check the Spreadsheet from Table macro.

And here are some hints regarding the Table Transformer macro that are present in our documentation but somehow were missed by our users:

  • The Table Transformer macro allows you to set a specific column width
  • You can use conditional formatting via the Table Transformer macro
  • You can look up (JOIN) tables (both manually created and macro generated)
  • You can split strings (for example, cut the "issues" part from the "32 issues" returned by the Jira Issues macro and use such numbers for further calculations)

And also you don't need to publish your page every time you change the SQL query and want to see the new result. Just use the macro preview that opens when clicking on the "eye" icon.
