The Importance of Free Apps in the Atlassian Marketplace

Two HeroCoders apps featured in the January 2024 Top 10 Free Jira Apps in the Atlassian Marketplace list shared by platinum solution partner Contegix recently - Issue Checklist Free and Clockwork Automated Time Tracking & Timesheets Free.

This made us happy.

We strongly believe in free apps at HeroCoders. Free apps make it possible for teams of all sizes, and all budgets, to do their best work. They keep the Marketplace fresh and innovative. And they exponentially improve the Atlassian platform by allowing hundreds of teams to contribute their ideas and effort to extending the functionality of Jira. 

As software creators, free apps help us to validate demand and gather information on use cases and desired features before creating a paid version with similar functionality. 

Checklists are valuable in all sorts of processes and we’ve noticed that many of our customers are using them to follow the conventions of agile development.  Teams use our checklists to create Definition of Done and Acceptance Criteria lists on their stories.  They also report using checklists with a workflow validator to  enforce their requirements SSDLC requirements:

We have pipeline checks for all of these things, but the ability to add a workflow restriction so that tickets can’t move to code complete without the developer asserting that everything was done added both a reminder and a level of accountability that helped tremendously in that project’s success. Now, even in projects without such strict policy requirements, we still use checklist in this way as a best practice.
