Introducing the Newest Release of Structure for Jira!

Structure 8.0 has arrived, with new features to boost efficiency and add value to your day-to-day business operations. Check out the highlights below!

Text Wrapping: Our #1 Most-Asked-For Feature 

One of the beauties of a solution like Structure is the ability to configure what information you want to see concerning all your portfolio items. 

As a project manager, you may know the back-story of all your issues, but what if you’re on a call with others within your organization who don’t? With the Structure 8.0 release, you now have the option to show the full item descriptions within the structure with the Excel-like capability to wrap the text without adjusting the column width.

We're especially pleased to make this change because Text Wrapping was the most popular feature request from our users – a simple change with outsized real-world benefits. 

Other details:

• If a user had used any Wiki Markup within the description, the formatting will stay the same in the structure.
• This new feature applies to the Last Comment column as well – so that whatever was added last to the comment section of the item will show in full.

Memo Attributes in Formulas

Memos in Structure act like folders, but let you add colors, icons, and rich text to increase the intuitiveness of your hierarchies. They're very useful when recording and communicating high-level initiatives that don't require Jira tickets. Structure 8.0 lets you use attributes that are specific to memos and incorporate them into your Formulas. 

Here are some examples of the benefits: 

• Use memo colors to identify risk levels in your planning stage, and then quickly aggregate risk across the structure.
• Add keywords to a memo's title or description, and use those to narrow your formula results.
• Group issues under memos, and create different calculation rules based on the memo values.

New Structure Description

Users can create structures for anything they need – but when you're working with a lot of different structures, you might find yourself losing track of what structure you're looking at, or what it's for. Structure 8.0 has a solution: You now have the ability to access a high-level description of a structure’s purpose, why it was originally created, and hyperlinks to additional resources.

These can cut down on training time and help flatten the learning curve as those who are not as versed in Structure or Jira get up to speed on their assigned projects and responsibilities.

Option to Enable Manual Adjustments by Default

Structure prides itself on its automated features, which let the user create and organize dynamic hierarchies quickly and easily. But what if the user wants to make manual changes to the structure? 

Previously, someone with the proper permissions would have to turn on ‘manual adjustments’ in order to make changes to Structure’s generated hierarchies. With this new feature, the Structure admin now has the ability to turn on manual adjustments by default so that every user can have the flexibility to alter it in the way that best suits them. 

Changing the Owner of a Specific View

When the person who created a View – a particular configuration of columns that are displayed in a structure panel – moves on to a new role, division, or company, the admin can now transfer ownership of that View. That flexibility prevents the extra work of having to recreate the View from scratch. Just one more simple fix that can save time and increase flexibility.
