Introducing issue grouping in JXL - Structure your issues the way you need

Hello community, I hope everyone's safe!

The custom issue hierarchy feature in JXL for Jira is a big success, so we wanted to let you know about the arrival of another crucial set of capabilities. JXL now lets you group issues by field and mix groupings with hierarchy.

Portfolio, Program, project and product management all have one thing in common: they’re much more successful if you can continuously keep track of what’s going on across all teams.

Lightning fast and completely customisable issue structure in JXL sheets already allows you to organise your teams’ work just the way you need it. You can define and visualise hierarchical relationships based on default Jira issue hierarchy (sub-task, base and epic issue type levels), as well as levels above epic level, configured via Advanced Roadmaps settings, and by using inward/outward issue link descriptions (e.g. blocked issues, etc.). To round up your custom issue structures, you can now also add field groupings to the mix.

Example: Prioritisation in cascaded issue groupings

The new grouping features come in two flavours: There’s a Group by field button above the table now. This is a simple one-field grouping capability. More detailed documentation can be found here.

Additionally, you can now use two types of Levels in issue Structures: Hierarchy and Grouping. I.e. you can combine and cascade groupings within hierarchical structures. More detailed documentation can be found here.

As always with JXL, your data never leaves your site and this feature relies exclusively on your issue data, i.e. fields, issue types and issue links. No additional fields are needed and the the setup is a breeze. You'll have your first hierarchy done in seconds.

What you see is what you get

All standard and custom fields, as well as various JXL special fields are supported in groupings. There are still more enhancements to this in the pipeline. Among other things, field sum-up data in grouping caption rows (e.g. epic children’s status progress, time tracking, story points, and other field sum-ups), per-level sorting and filtering settings within structures, and dragging and dropping issue rows between levels/groups with subsequent update of the relevant fields.

All this is of course available in JXL for Jira Cloud and JXL for Jira Data Center and Server, and in Cloud for both company-managed and team-managed projects. So if you haven’t already, take the ultimate issue editor and organiser for a free test drive. Chances are you’ll never want to go back. Grab a trial here on the Atlassian Marketplace.

Hoping this was a useful announcement (if so, you may want to follow our blog as well). If anyone has any questions, please get in touch or comment. We’d love to hear from you. ✌️
