Do you want to quickly make sense of user feedback - within your Confluence instance?
Research shows that our brains process images 60,000 times quicker than text, meaning visual data is far easier for our hard-working brains to process. Whatever answers you might be looking for, data visualisation is the key to making decisions faster. And you can save even more time by keeping it all in Confluence!
Unfortunately, Confluence doesn’t have a built-in forms app. But with the help of an app from the Atlassian Marketplace, it's possible to collect, securely store, and visualise user feedback within Confluence.
Due to its visualisation features, this walkthrough uses Forms for Confluence, but there may be other apps you can use, too. Here’s how to do it:
You can create a survey or form for internal users or make it shareable and get feedback from customers. Read our guide on creating forms in Confluence to learn more.
3. Visualise your form data
In Confluence, go to “Apps” > “Forms for Confluence” to bring up the Forms for Confluence homepage.
Click on your form of choice to land on its Summary page. Then simply scroll down to view visualisations for each question.
The chart types you see vary based on the types of questions in your form (e.g. a star rating question will display a bar graph, with a bar representing each number).
You can filter out which responses show in each visualisation by clicking on the response label above. Clicking on it again will add those responses back into the chart.
To share your charts in presentations or on external pages, you can easily export them from your Form’s Summary page. Just click the little download icon in the top-right corner of a chart to download them in PNG format, ready for use in your reports.
If you'd like to share visualisations in real-time publicly with other Confluence users, you can do this with the Embed Visualisations macro.
Want to tell a bigger, more compelling story with your data? You can even use multiple Embed visualisations macros on the same page to create comprehensive reports that combine charts from different forms.
1. Click the pencil icon on your Confluence page, start typing the macro shortcut (/embed visualisations), and select the macro from the dropdown.
2. Search for the form you want to embed, then choose whether to show the form title and whether to display all questions or only specific ones. Click “Proceed”.
3. Finally, click “Publish” or “Update” in the top-right corner to view your embedded visualisation on your Confluence page.
No matter what feedback you get from your users, data visualisation removes the guesswork and lets you make decisions faster.
