As someone who has been wanting just such a solution, I installed Issue Templates Agent immediately and am very happy with the results. We had been kludging it by putting the equivalent of a template into the field descriptions so that we could hover over the tooltip, and copy/paste it in, which doesn't allow for formatting, and is also very finicky and annoying. This thing installed very easily, is very intuitive to set up, and was ready to go in minutes. (I was helped by the fact that all the template text was ready-to-go in the field descriptions, so all I had to do was add formatting.)

A couple of tips:

  1. It pays to warn your Jira users that they will be prompted to Allow Access the next time they create a Jira for a project that has a template
  2. It pays to warn your Jira users that the template is only available on Create Issue, so even if they don't have all the info that they want to fill in at the time of creating the issue, it pays to apply the template so they can have it available when they are ready for it.
