Community release notes for March 4, 2020

Hello all! Welcome to an edition of community release notes that will have you on the edge of your seat! Or maybe the middle or back of your seat. Or maybe at a standing desk. Or in a hammock on a tropical island. The possibilities are endless! But wherever you are, read on…

Updated: Recently, a significant number of users started encountering issues with logging in when they had special characters in their names; even spaces were being considered special characters in some cases. In order to resolve that friction, blank spaces are now being replaced_with_underscores_in_all_usernames. It isn’t pretty, and it isn’t permanent, but it’s here for now. Once we’re able to find a better fix, we’ll let you know. But in the meantime, the login issues have stopped, so hooray for that.

Fixed: There was an email bug incorrectly identifying an Answer as if it were a Question in some emails. This bug has been squished.

New: We have a new group for Atlassian Answerers, aka folks who want to learn more about answering questions on community. There is so much amazingness happening there already, and I urge you to check it out, especially the introduction thread, the conversation on what makes a good answer, and even some advice from Nic, our top answerer of all time.

New: We have a big feature rolling out to help users write better questions and get faster, more accurate answers from our experts and support team. Now, when you ask a question from our global form, the community will pre-fill the products associated with your Atlassian account.

If you choose to make your settings public, answerers will also be able to see your deployment type and permissions level in the right-hand sidebar. This is extremely useful information for our Answerers, and hopefully will cut down on the time it takes to get that perfect answer!

Our first version of this will apply to questions only, and to the global form only. We would love feedback you have on how useful you find this new experience, and any improvements you’d like to see!

That’s it for now. But isn’t it a lot? 🙂

Hi! I’m a designer on Community and I helped design this new experience for asking a question based on the products you have. Please feel free to reach out to me with any feedback you have on this specific experience (good or bad) at enunotani@atlassian.com. Thanks!

"pre-fill the products associated with your Atlassian account"

This new feature is awesome!

Besides this one, I hope to encourage users to upload screenshots when asking questions, which is also very helpful for solving problems.

A suggestion:

When the reporter vote the answer for his question, the system prompts the reporter whether to choose this as the correct answer.

Many users will vote for the correct answer, but forget to accept it.
