Teams creating stories across multiple projects

Edited

Hi...

Our current setup:

  1. A product manager has a single project containing all features (epics) that have been prioritised. It also shows associated stories to the epics.
  2. A "team" has a board that shows them any user stories tagged with their team. This team board has to live in its own project (per JIRA), so we've also updated the board filter to view the Project OR the team assignment.

Problem we're facing:

The teams break out additional stories to be completed for the PMs project. However when creating a new user story in their project, it does just that... creates it in their project. Then when referring back to Advanced Roadmaps we don't see the stories the team created because it is viewing by project.

One complication is that there are a lot of projects, so requiring a team to constantly hunt down which project the epic is in is difficult (but not impossible).

Question to answer:

Any recommendation to allow a team to create stories to the main project while within their own project's board?
