Is there a way to exclude Epic story points from Advanced Roadmaps capacity planning in Jira Cloud?

I am working in Advanced Roadmaps on Jira Cloud.

• Our teams add story points to Epics for planning and for understanding the overall size of the Epic. Overall, the Epic story points equal the total story points of its child's tickets.
• Our teams point stories/child tickets within the ticket itself.

In Advanced Roadmaps, the total allocated capacity is adding both Epic and Child ticket story points together, so the story points are duplicated. Is there a way to exclude story points from the Epics (but still show epics on the advanced roadmap) or would we need to implement a custom field for Epics instead of using the actual Story Points field?

Based on my knowledge of Jira Cloud, excluding story points from Epics in Advanced Roadmaps is not possible. The tool calculates the total capacity based on the sum of story points of all issues, including Epics and their child tickets.

One possible workaround is using a custom Epics field instead of the Story Points field. This way, the Advanced Roadmap will not consider the story points of Epics when calculating the total capacity. However, this solution requires manually updating the custom field for each Epic, which can be time-consuming and error-prone.

Another option is to split the Epics into smaller, more manageable issues. This way, the story points of the child tickets will not be duplicated in the Epic's story points. However, this solution may not be feasible if the user needs to keep the Epics as high-level, strategic goals.

Overall, there seems to be no straightforward solution to exclude story points from Epics in Advanced Roadmaps on Jira Cloud. The user may need to evaluate the trade-offs between different options and choose the one that best fits their needs.
