How can you show user stories created for EPICs for items that are in the backlog to show on plan

I am using the plan tool to show the active and 1 non active sprint in the plan.
I use the EPIC with User Stories hierarchy view.

I have EPICs which appear in the unassigned section (no sprint assigned ie backlog) and these have user stories that are assigned or not assigned to anyone.
Problem is that you cannot see the user stories associated with the EPIC on the plan.
Why?

Hi @Manish Shah

Welcome to the community!!!

What are you using as the Issue Source for this plan? Are the mission stories part of that dataset?
(You may well be doing this, but...) I would suggest using the Board (that has all these Sprints and backlog) as the Issue source, then all of that data should come through.

If (as your first sentence alludes to) you have a filter in place as the Issue Source that once has the Current sprint plus one non active sprints worth of data coming through, then that is the issue....the backlog is not part of the in scope dataset.

If this doesn't help, then perhaps a screenshot or two to help us understand how you have set it up   👍

Hi @Curt Holley

Thanks for responding to my query.

I use a Board filter showing all issue types except support.

This is the issue source.

I use the Sprint capacity management view.
Filtered to show active sprint and 1 future sprint

Hierarchy from EPIC to Story

View settings group by sprint

I see all the EPICs and associated user stories when expanded for both sprints and an unassigned "sprint" showing all EPICs but no associated user stories

IF I change view settings to Team

I see all the EPICs and associated user stories for both sprints and unassigned "sprint"

What does the unassigned "sprint" actually show ie what are the parameters it uses to display these EPIC. Also notice that the EPICS shown are different!

Strange!

I went to the unassigned and chose to remove them from the plan.
It messed up the items I had in the active sprint. I ended up with fewer items and 20 user stories without parents!

So, cannot hide the EPICs in unassigned section!
