Does Portfolio for JIRA have different functionality based on the JIRA version it's integrated with?

Wondering if the general JIRA version (server-based) determines/ limits the functionality of Portfolio for JIRA. In other words, does having an older JIRA version limit Portfolio for JIRA functionality?

Sort of.  Most 3rd party Apps have a range of Jira version that they can run on.  This is what limits your functionality, not code in the App that looks at the version and unlocks functions.  If you access Marketplace, search for your the App and check the Versions, you can see these ranges to determine which version of the App you can run, based on your Jira version.  Details on Jira Portfolio.
