Atlassian Community Round-up: July 2023

Hello Everyone!

It’s that time once again to take a look at everything that has happened in the past month! From major events, to product announcements, to amazing people providing great tips & best practices to help the Community, I guarantee there is something here for everyone. Let’s get started!

Announcements & Highlights:

As always, there are a TON of amazing things happening and here is just a small sample of all the great things you don’t want to miss out on!

  • First up, while the competitions for swag have already ended, you should check out the way a number of people answered some of these challenges, there is a TON of creativity out there. Also, the Jira Jams Spotify playlist is worth a listen!

  • Next, Atlassian engaged a third party consultant to help perform security testing on their Cloud products and letters of assessment from that testing have been made available. If this is something that your IT or Security team are interested in or require as a part of your own auditing process, it might be worth drawing their attention to this post.

  • Do you know what work management is? Can you define it? I thought I knew until I started thinking about how I would explain it to someone else. This is a wonderful article that really helped me have a better understanding of exactly what Work Management is.

  • Speaking of Work Management, the Atlassian University just launched a brand new course all about Jira Work Management. If you are looking for help getting started with Jira Work Management, this course is likely for you.

  • Next, Exploring Jira features is a wonderful series of articles. I grabbed part 4 for this round up, not because I think it’s the best one. But, because it has links to all the others. Oliwia Poświat Deviniti has done a wonderful job putting these together and they are extremely informative. Got check them all out!

  • Continuing the trend of extremely informative articles, Craig Nodwell has put together a fantastic write up on how to set yourself up for success using DevOps practices in managing your Atlassian Data Center environment.

  • And, it would be a conversation about informative articles if we didn’t include Phil Fox. He has put together a great visual showing where and how the Atlassian products interact with each other and how you can get the most value out of them. Please go take a look!

  • Any time I see Confluence in the title and Teodora Old Street Solutions as the author, I know it’s going to be good. This time it’s just a tease of things to come, but if you look at the topics that are going to be discussed in this series, you know it’s going to be worth the wait!

  • Finally, Dreamsuite Mike has some wonderful tips and a full walkthrough of how to setup a Trello board with parent child cards. Sound interesting? It is! I’m constantly amazed at the power that people keep pulling out of Trello!

New Features & Product Updates:

Want to keep up to date on all the cool things Atlassian has announced about their products? Be sure to read through these, then go check out all the others for your favorite product!

  • First, I know not too many people have a Cloud Enterprise subscription, and therefore have not had an opportunity to experience Atlassian Analytics. I would recommend checking out the June demo so you can see what changes and improvements are being made the Analytics. For my fellow Premium subscribers some of these features might help build the case to move to Enterprise.

  • A neat new feature of Access, you are now able to apply security controls to external accounts you collaborate with in your organization, but you don’t manage their account. If you are an Atlassian Access subscriber, you should check out this article for details on how to get started today!

  • Confluence has now made it possible for you to display public and private (only logged in users) announcement banners! This is a great way to communicate with your users about up coming changes they should be aware of which keeping said communication within the tool they already love and use regularly.

  • Jira Align has a new navigation experience coming soon. What can you expect to see? A new top bar, a new sidebar, a new homepage and on Cloud, in product guides to how get you more familiar with this new experience quickly.

  • Jira Work Management Premium has been announced! If you are already on Cloud Premium, you will have access to some of these features now, while others such as Approvals and more admin controls are coming soon.

  • Assets in Jira Service Management Cloud now have templates to get you started faster. If you are just getting started, any of these templates are great for giving you a basic set of objects and attributes to get up and running quickly. If you already know what you need or are planning to import it using the discovery app, then the blank schema option is still available.

  • A slightly controversial announcement, “Advanced Issue Search“ has been renamed to “view all issues“. If you are looking endlessly for where to go to start typing out JQL to find your issues this change may be the reason.

  • Finally, the “Teams“ you create in Atlas are going to be the same as the “Teams“ in Jira bringing the integration between both of these products even closer. Free and standard Jira users should see this change already, while Premium and Enterprise users can look forward to this rolling out later this year.
