why my screen would skip to the DONE list once I mark it completed?

WSNG November 28, 2023

Hi there,

I created many list in Board, my lists from left to right are Today, Uncategorized, Important and Urgent, Important but not Urgent, Waiting for sb's Feedback, Done…. As my lists are too many, so I need to scroll screen to right then I could see Done list.

Besides, I add a card button Completed which will move the card into Done list. But recently, when I Completed button some of the cards in Today list, the card will move to Done list and scroll my screen to Done list, while Completed button some cards, my screen will not scroll to Done list.

As you can see, the "1" Stamp in Today, when click Completed, it will be moved to Done list, and my screen will scroll to Done, at this time point, I could not see Today and the left List.

It is really annoying because I did not care about the Done list often.

Below is the related Rules and Card button setting.

Rule:

1. when a card is moved into list "Done" by anyone, mark the due date as complete

2. when a card is moved out of list "Done" by anyone, mark the due date as incomplete

3. when the due date is marked as complete in a card by anyone, move the card to the top of list "Done"

4. when a card is moved into list "Done" by anyone, find the first card linked in the attachments, and check item "{triggercardlink}"

Card Button:

1. Completed Button: move the card to the top of list "Done", and mark the due date as complete

Why is my screen skipping to the DONE list once I mark it completed?

kindly help, many thanks!

Hey @WSNG, thanks for writing in, and sorry for the inconvenience! We've just rolled out a fix for this issue. Now, while a card is open, we won't force your screen to scroll to follow it in the background anymore. You can pull in the fix by refreshing your page or opening Trello in a new tab!

HI Raymond,

Thanks for your prompt response, appreciate it very much!!!

After your change, I have tested several times, I found some cards that will force to scroll to Done List in the past are no longer scroll to DONE when I click the completed button.

But some cards will still scroll to DONE.

And I could not find the pattern for you to debug.

No matter it contains attachment/checklist/link...., some will scroll and some wont.

Would you please help again?

Below are my updated setting, hope them would not influence to make bug.

Rule:

1. when a card is moved out of list "Done" by anyone, mark the due date as incomplete

2. when the due date is marked as complete in a card by anyone, move the card to the top of list "Done"

3. when a card is moved into list "Done" by anyone, find the first card linked in the attachments, and check item "{triggercardlink}"

4. when a card is moved into list "Done" by anyone, mark the due date as complete

@WSNG — I see the issue! The change we rolled out yesterday changed our logic so that we no longer scroll to keep a card in the viewport if a card back is open; for example, if a card is moved when you click on a card automation button in the card back.

It sounds like the issue you're currently seeing is a slightly different (but related) one:

  1. Focus a card by moving your mouse over it, or using arrow keys — you can tell which card is "focused" by the blue outline around it
  2. Make a change to the card, like marking the due date done, that would trigger an automation
  3. That automation moves the card to a different location (like the top of your "Done" list)
  4. Because that card was still being focused, it will scroll into the viewport!

Keeping the "focused" card in the viewport was a deliberate change that we made to improve accessibility. I think we can make this a bit better for you, though. Let me think about this and see if I can get a solution within a day or two.

@WSNG, we've just rolled out a fix that should prevent this from happening in the future! You can get the new version by refreshing your page or opening Trello in a new tab. Let me know if that works for you!

@WSNG check on the card button and see if you have a setting for "close the card after completed". I wonder if changing that setting will help?

WSNG November 28, 2023

yes, I have this checkbox checked before, but after I uncheck "close the card after completed", screen will still scroll to Done list.

And I found that, if I use Completed Button to complete card, the screen will scroll to DONE list(I have rule for this, once the date is checked, it will also move to DONE list), but if I check the Duedate in Card, it wont scroll to DONE.

I see a post from Atlassian above showing there was a bug and they've rolled out a fix, so hopefully this works now!
