@Todd Brizendine as mentioned by @Michael Pryor here's a screenshot of the issue, this is something I've seen reported quite a bit:
Shortly after the 10 board limit was introduced I did see a couple of reports where people had boards that were a member of their team, but where they had been removed from the boards. They could no longer see the boards, but the boards were taking up spots on their team. I haven't seen that reported for maybe a year, though so I think it's probably resolved.
