What counts as a "user" in the pricing scheme?

Hassan DuRant October 2, 2017

Our business is considering Trello, but we are confused about what constitutes a "user" in the pricing scheme. Business class is $9.99 per user, per month. My question is, are team members the users here?

Let's say our business has 100 people.

Of that 100 people, only 50 need constant access to our Trello boards.

The other 50 people are wildcards:

  • One of them may only need to view a single board for the whole year.
  • Another may need access to several of the boards, but just for one month.

I see there's a distinction between "Team members" and "Non-team" members. Could we pay for a 50-member team and invite the other 50 as free Non-team members as needed?

Hey Hassan,

In the case of Business Class, a team member is a user. So anyone that is on your team will incur a charge.

Because Business Class upgrades are per-team, you will not be charged for members that you add to particular boards instead of the team as a whole. As a tradeoff, those team members will not receive some of the perks of Business Class. They'll still be able to see and use Power-Ups that you have enabled, but they will not be able to enable unlimited Power-Ups on boards themselves without Business Class. They also will not have the benefits of Trello Gold (large attachments, saved search, custom stickers/backgrounds/emoji), and will not be controllable with BC permissions (being able to deactivate a user/remove them from all team boards at once, view their recent activity, restricting team boards to team-members only or a certain domain only).

If you don't mind that those members won't get those perks, or you're only interacting with them on a few boards, and not boards across the team, don't feel as though you have to pay to add them to your team.
