Set Specific Team Member Permissions

Michael_Noicos June 25, 2020

Hello,

I have looked through Trello's member permission settings and cannot find an answer. I am looking to set team member permissions.

My board has 6 different "Lists" in a "Assembly Line" sort of style, where task 1 is completed, the person in charge of task 1 attaches a file to the card. Then I check it and move it across to list 2 for person 2 to complete the task, upload to the card and so forth until the end of the production line.

I want to change user settings so that The only action someone can do on a card is upload a new item, and label, make comments etc. I dont want someone that I have invited to come through and delete a card accidentally, or move a card to where it shouldnt be etc.

Is it possible to set permissions such as this with the non-business version of Trello?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Michael

@Michael_Noicos please watch this. The intra boards permission is ver limited (almost non existing especially for free plans) but I have here a demo that hopes to secured critical parts of the business process against accidental card deletion. It is not perfect yet.

When you want someone to participate in the workflow but not necessarily to look at other information on the board, then you can trigger a process by moving a card into a special list and have Wayscript send eg an email with a link to a form with a card ID to be entered as part of the form so that the backend script knows exactly which card to update with the data from the form and where to insert the attachment ...etc Recommended this for customer approval of work products in a design and fabrication work process.

I am doing similar investigation. It seems that in free plan, permission option is only admin or normal which mean they can do some accidental harm.

What I know in working with a client is that while I am an observer under a business plan, I can work with the data in the card. Can I update? I could not test but would love to investigate it further when I have a sandbox.

So an alternative that I am able to share with you is to build a form of sorts and let it update the card.

Let me know should you want to discuss further. Note : upload as in creating an attachment on the card is easy.

I think I will build a sandox but in the meantime you might want to look at this https://trello.com/invite/b/mcU0P61s/8fe28f4628463fb1c724d14b7f2dbeaa/wayscript-trigger-demo-air-travel

It uses the same platform except there is no form input. Will use that as my sandbox. As you can see from the demo it creates a card in another list from card movement. So get data from a form is not a problem...will call it "Build your own airline". Here's the link https://22925.wayscript.io
