Restrict users from changing order of cards in column

Jenny Hulbert January 5, 2018

Hi

I would like to know if there is any way to restrict board members from changing the order of cards within a column on a Board they have access to.

The scenario is based on a team board where only the Stakeholders and\or Product Owners prioritise the work and they wish to prevent others with access (by board membership or org membership) from deleting or changing the order of the work (cards) they have prioritised.

If there is no way to do this in the free version but there is in a paid version, it would be helpful to know which paid version and how easy it is to configure this.

Many thanks

Jenny

Hi Jenny,

There are two options available to do this:

First, if your team subscribes to Business Class, you can add individuals to a board as "Observers" which are read-only board members. They can view all content on a board, but can't edit any cards. You can also configure their ability to add comments to cards.

Second, another option is to set your board as "Team Visible" (http://help.trello.com/article/789-changing-the-visibility-of-a-board-to-public-private-or-team) to ensure that your team can view the board, and then also disable "Allow team members to join" (http://help.trello.com/article/791-changing-permissions-on-a-board). If you don't add anyone to the board as a member, they'll be able to view cards, but not edit, as they're not members of the board, and they won't be able to join in order to make any changes.
