If I upgrade from a free account will I be able to restore boards that have been closed?

Deborah Griffith September 17, 2021

I have many boards that have been closed because I had a free account with only one workspace. They do not have re-open buttons available. If I upgrade will I be able to restore these boards? Thank you

Hi Deborah,

As you've raised this in Community, I can only give general information, but if you need further clarification after my response, feel free to raise a ticket at Trello Support. This is so we can look at your account and give you information specific to your case.

Trello has moved to a model where all boards need to sit in a workspace. Free workspaces have a limit of ten open boards per workspace. Subscriptions in Trello (not including Enterprise) are applied to a workspace, not an account. If you apply a subscription to your affected workspace, you can have unlimited boards in this workspace and reopen all of your boards (if you are the admin of the boards in question, if you are not an admin of a board, you cannot reopen it).

Alternatively, you can create new workspaces, and move your boards into these workspaces. You would follow these steps:

  1. Create a new workspace: https://help.trello.com/article/705-creating-a-new-workspace
  2. Move the ten open boards in your affected workspace to this new workspace: https://help.trello.com/article/752-changing-the-workspace-to-which-a-board-belongs
  3. Then reopen up to ten boards in your affected workspace: https://help.trello.com/article/781-reopening-a-closed-board
  4. Rinse and repeat until you have all of your boards open across multiple workspaces
