I have a problem with repeat tasks. I've done something wrong.

I have same task showing up multiple times.  

When I  look at the task that is duplicated (in excess) it says "copied from ...board yesterday at 5:22 p.m." but I didn't do that .  I've created an automation by mistake.  How do I reverse that?  I've tried deleting the card, but it only deletes that event...not the future events.

As you say deleting the card does not remove the duplicates as they each exist as their own entity. The first thing you need to do is find the automation rule that you have created. 

The first place to look is Butler for something similar to this rule. 

The trigger event may be different but the keywords you are looking for is "copy the card". Once you find the rule you can then amend or delete as appropriate.
