How should I invite a non-Trello user to create a Trello account so as to access my board?

I've created a board with multiple list's and cards in each list. I want to share this data with my team, most of whom are not yet Trello users.  I've texted a link to my board, but when they create an account, they can't see my board?  I've also emailed a link to my board and when they created an account from the email link, they were able to see and access contents of my board with ease.

When inviting non-Trello users, to setup an account so as to access the contents of my board, does an email link to my board work differently than a text to link to my board?

Hi Marcus, if you invite non-Trello users to your board, we'll send them an email inviting them to create an account with Trello. This is explained in our help docs: https://help.trello.com/article/998-whats-a-virtual-user
