How come the card covers from the templates look clean but the ones I add show the file attachment?

Welcome to the Community!

Because you've specifically added an attachment first to the back of the card, then used it as a card cover second, it'll show up as an attachment. 

If you can find the image you want on Unsplash through the 'cover' option for the deck, you should be able to add it (like you have of the calendar).

@Esme Crutchley whoa epic, never knew about that feature. For reference here's a screenshot of the option, it seems you can also upload your own photos for covers if you can't find out what you want on Unsplash:
