Email Notifications

Lynn Bring August 16, 2021

We want to be able to (1) tag a card "complete", (2) move to "done" (3) send a communication to the person who is now able to complete their task because I have "completed" a card.

essentially, it's a workflow but I cannot find anything that SHOWS/TELLS you HOW to implement.  We need instructions, can you please direct us?  We want our board to work like a Gantt chart.

Thanks, Lynn

@Lynn Bring

Assuming you have the dependency task (card) linked with members assigned to the card, here is a suggested command

when the due date is marked as complete in a card with a due date in list "Doing", move the card to the top of list "Done", find the first card linked in the attachments, and post comment "@card Dependency Task is completed"

Above use comment to notify the users. If you want email, getting the email will require more work.

I have deployed a technique with Contalist using Group and using comment action to trigger email notification.

Try it.

No, this does not work, we tried it.  We want to use email communication and it needs to be automatic when a task is completed.

Can you provide us with the email implementation  process, please?

@Lynn Bring

Here a demo video. There are probably other ways to do it.

The approach uses the comment to message (email) automation in Contalist (Power Up). The people to notified is in a Notification Group. This is independent of the card Members but you can activate the same people in that group.

The email sent uses a message template.

In the example above, the comment is activated on linked card. Nothing prevent you from activating the trigger on the completed card. It depends on now you would like to use this feature.

The command is almost identical except that you use `@notification` instead

when the due date is marked as complete in a card with a due date in list "Doing", move the card to the top of list "Done", find the first card linked in the attachments, and post comment "@notification This task has been completed {triggercardname}"
