Now that Custom Fields is a core function of Trello, would it be possible to have the change of state/value recorded in the detailed Activity Feed? It would be good to see how custom fields change.
E.g. Person 1 updated risk value from 'High' to 'Low' on this card
The Amazing Fields powerup has an option to track field changes in the activity log. It isn't as powerful as Custom Fields for automation and integration, but it may have what you need and it allows for some creative styling.
It's available via API
