WHAT'S NEW

New security feature: Mobile Device Management 📲

Mobile Device Management (MDM) is now available for all Atlassian plans, including Trello. MDM offers enhanced data security by allowing IT admins to monitor, manage, and secure mobile devices used by employees in your organization.

What it is: a free feature that allows your business to enforce security controls for your Atlassian mobile apps to prevent data leaks, prevent unauthorized access, and ensure compliance.

  • Admins can push pre-defined security configuration to mobile apps on company-managed devices through the MDM device application.
  • Admins can manage security policies via admin console (admin.atlassian.com ) and push to both company-managed devices as well as bring-your-own-device.
  • The policies can be set at org level across all products and workspaces.

Which products: available for free across all cloud plans including Trello, Jira, Confluence, and OpsGenie.

Coming soon: Boards are moving into Workspaces 🚚

What it is: Trello Workspaces (formerly Trello Teams ) are the new ways that boards are grouped together–providing deeper collaboration for users and cleaner organization for admins.

What’s changing: Moving forward, all Trello boards will live and be grouped within Workspaces. Newly created boards are already placed in a Workspace by default, and existing boards will be moved into Workspaces in the coming months.

Trello is aware that the creation of too many Workspaces could result in a headache for admins who manage many Trello users. Here’s how we’re aiming to avoid that friction:

  • Any boards your users have that aren’t in a Workspace will be moved into one automatically-generated Workspace in your Enterprise.
  • This will only apply to managed accounts: user accounts whose email address is on the business domain you have claimed. To maximize the benefit, we encourage businesses to claim their domains if they haven’t already.
  • Enterprise Admins will able to view the new automatically-generated Workspace in the Enterprise Admin Dashboard and click through to see the boards.
  • Users will not notice a difference in their workflow, and this won’t affect who can see their boards, other than Enterprise admins. Your users will not receive any email about this change.
  • Trello will not add users to Workspaces; there will be no impact on licenses or cost.

When: This change will be happening in August 2021. You can encourage your users to proactively move their boards into Workspaces themselves before this date—if they have any non-work related boards they want to move out of Trello Enterprise, it may be difficult to do so after this change.

What’s next: In current state, a Workspace is created for every user that signs up to Trello. In the future, users will be able to find and join existing Workspaces that their teammates are already using. For now, we recommend that new users are invited to a Workspace before they sign up.

Coming soon: Authenticated Attachments security feature 🔐

What’s changing: After July 2021 all attachments uploaded on newly created Trello boards will receive an additional layer of security.

  • Moving forward, Trello will check for user authorization in order to display the attachment. This means users won't be able to share an attachment link to another person if that person does not have access to the Trello board where that attachment was uploaded.
  • If a user tries to load a Trello attachment when not logged in, they will be prompted to first log in before being able to view the attachment.
  • Attachments and previews on public boards will remain fully accessible without an account.
  • With Trello, any user that has access to a board will have access to any attachments on that board. If you prefer a different level of security, we recommend using Google Drive for attachments which allows you to grant attachment access to specific users at a more granular level.
  • All boards created prior to July 2021 will have their attachments migrated as well, but please note this process will take up to 6 months. We appreciate your patience!

User experience: As Authenticated Attachments roll out, some of your users may experience the following changes:

  • As mentioned above, users must be logged into their Trello account in order to to load and access attachments.
  • Mobile systems older than 2021.1 for Android and iOS do not support new attachments, so it is recommended that users update their mobile devices to the latest versions to continue viewing attachments.
  • For Trello boards created prior to July 2021, users who copied the URLs of files attached to their Trello card and shared them in other apps (i.e copied/pasted the URL of an image file onto a Confluence page or Slack message) may need to return to their Trello card and re-copy the new URL of that file.
  • Trello Power-Ups that have not yet been updated that utilize uploaded attachments may need developer build support in order for attachments to remain operational.
