An old dog trying to learn new tricks

Greetings all,

I'm Andrew.  In some other forums you may see me as A. Jay, but I use the same profile pic all over the place.

I've been in IT for almost 30 years, and have recently embarked on a new and different adventure, which is that of a Microsoft 365 Adoption Specialist.  Prior to finding this role, I wasn't even aware that was a legitimate job title, but I've enjoyed M365 and Azure for the last several years.

I'm new to Jira though, so I thought the forums here would be a good way to pick up some beneficial tips.

Although my company is in Des Moines, I am in Peoria where I live with my wife who was my 3rd grade sweetheart.  We lost touch many years ago but were able to reconnect through social media.  This past November we celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary.  Between us we have four adult children and four cats.  :)

It's nice to be here.

Andrew

You all sure know how to make a newcomer feel welcome.  Thanks everyone!

I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere, so maybe someone could share a link to another post.  Epics, stories, issues, sub-tasks... this is new language to me.  Is there a 'normal' flow of work in Jira, and how do you decide what's an Epic and what's an issue or task?

Thanks again!

Andrew

I suggest this article, which describes issue types - that will hopefully answer your questions: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/what-are-issue-types/

Thanks Adam.  It's nice to be here.  I've already learned a lot about Jira.  And it seems like the more I learn, the more there is to learn!  It's certainly a robust and flexible tool.

It surely is. Well, feel free to ask anything you need in community and have fun with Jira! ;)
