Your old Agility projects will soon be converted to classic projects

Remember Agility projects?

Back in 2017, we quietly introduced Agility projects to Jira Software Cloud. This simplified experience was the first step on our journey to creating a reimagined and redesigned Jira Software.

Today, we call this experience next-gen Jira and with your feedback, we’re still developing features for it to this day.

So what?

We’re writing this post to inform you all that the very early Agility projects created around 2 years ago, which are no longer receiving updates, will now be converted to classic projects.

If your project:

• Has the You're in a next-gen project message in the bottom-left corner, and
• Doesn't have the Group by dropdown in the top-right of the board, and

• Doesn't have the Issue types and Features options in Project settings

…then you have an old Agility project, and it will be converted to a classic project after June 10.

You won’t lose any data, and you’ll still be able to use your project as a normal classic project.

Why are we doing this?

I’ll level with you - In the very early days of next-gen Jira development, we had to cheat a little. We knew we wanted to make a simpler and more streamlined Jira Software, but we ran into a lot of technical complexities that made this impossible. So our short-term solution was to take the architecture of classic Jira Software, and put a next-gen coat of paint on top of it.

Once we got past these technical complexities, we were able to start delivering a next-gen experience that was truly rebuilt from the ground up, both in the front-end and in the back-end. Next-gen projects that you create today (and in the last 12 or so months) are the beneficiaries of this work, and will continue to get updates as we develop new features.

But the very early Agility projects? We can’t really do much with them now. Because those projects are on the old architecture, we can’t ship any updates to them, nor can we deliver any new next-gen features that we develop.

What can you do?

If you like, you can convert your project to a classic project early by selecting Migrate now when you see this message, which will pop up when you access your project:

It's been a while since Agility was subtly introduced and then it was transformed into Next Gen.
As a "new" product there's still a lot to be desired... plenty of features can be improved or introduced to enhance the experience.

What is the best way to follow the Next Gen Roadmap, including understand what features/functionality will be shipped and when?
